LocationWhere Lancaster Is

Lancaster sits in the middle of the Antelope Valley, north of Palmdale along SR-14, in the western Mojave Desert. It became a city on November 22, 1977, and now covers 94 square miles of land. The Census Bureau counted 173,516 residents in 2020 and estimates 170,084 for 2025.

Several small communities around the city, including Quartz Hill, Antelope Acres and Neenach, are unincorporated LA County areas, even when the mailing address says Lancaster. County rules then apply to zoning, permits and some services.
